Curtains and draperies were simply gathered and hung from rods. Roman shades were popular. Lace and sheer panels were often used to create a softer touch.

Fabrics most often used were homespun or woven cotton. Checks and stripes were the patterns most often available. Fabric was dyed with natural dyes, so most of the colors were the colors of nature; blues, greens, yellows, reds and browns were the most often used colors of the period.

The fabrics used in this decorating style are usually natural fibers; cotton, linen, fine wool. Patterns are usually gingham, checks or stripes. Calico is often used along with large florals and country scenes.

Styles are gathered and sometimes pleated draperies, cafe curtains, and roman shades. Valances are often used. Soft tiebacks are used for draperies along with soft valances.

Wooden rods and wrought iron were the usual hardware used for hanging curtains.

Colors again were made with natural dyes so indigo denim blue, barn red, bright yellow and soft tints like pinks and sky blue were the major players in the color scheme.
