Get The Most From a Small Kitchen
Space is the always a limiting factor in any kitchen redesign process, so it's important to have a good idea of how the area in your room will influence your project. There are many techniques which can be employed to make the most out of the space you have and there a few things you should be aware of before you begin to plan the project. Kitchen cabinets can be custom made into a range of different sizes and designs, choosing the correct one for the space you have is important. After measuring the size of your kitchen and carefully considering cupboard designs you will know which will be best for you. If you have a small kitchen, then choosing corner units with rotating or pull out shelves will utilise the space best. Also if you have high ceilings then extending upwards could add an extra shelf for items that are not used as often.
When looking at what appliances you need to store in your kitchen, you may have to consider buying slim-line fridges and freezers if space is limited. Also consider stacking on top of each other or if there is a utility room, move the appliances in there. Other appliances can be built in to modern kitchens to save work surface space. Also if you have space in another room or area near the kitchen then investing in a portable kitchen counter will allow you to store some utensils in another room of the house whilst also providing a functional and smart piece of furniture when you have it in the kitchen, it can be used to extend a counter top. As well as physically making the most of the space you have, you can also create the impression of a larger room with the colour scheme you employ. White, cream and pastel colours are best for the walls whilst light wood finishes work well with the units and worktops. The employment of a glossy finish will reflect light and again create a feeling of greater space. If you adopt these techniques, you can increase the functionality of your kitchen whilst also creating the impression of having a larger room that will be pleasant to work in.
