Home theatre seating can now be found in a multitude of styles

Not even thought about a few years ago, home theatre seating is now on many homeowners shopping lists

Home theatre seating is becoming more and more important to homeowners as media rooms and home theaters are incorporated into today's homes.

When it comes to theater seating, the main focus should be on comfort and functionality. The current trend in home theatre seating is the use of leather and suede. The softer the upholstery fabric, the better the sound absorbency.

A large number of furniture stores now carry theater seating -- the equivalent of two to four recliner chairs linked together with cup-holder armrests. These pieces can be found in a multitude of colors and fabrics, If you have a smaller space or prefer a more intimate area, purchase two recliners in dark leather or other plain fabric. Busy prints and bright colors are a distraction in a media room.

If you have the room, many homeowners are now installing stadium seating; putting a second row of seats on a raised platform. This not only adds cachet to a home theatre, but also helps enhance the sound by creating an extra layer for the sound to move around in.

Home theatre seating comes in many styles and with extra add-ons. Consider these options when you are purchasing home theatre seating:

  • The first choice of many theater owners is the leather recliner. With reclining capability and footrests they provide the ultimate comfort. If you prefer tasteful and luxurious, leather would be your first choice.
  • Upholstered home theater loungers include plush suede and micro suede fabrics. These are good choices not only for their comfort but also for their sound absorbing qualities.
  • Some home theater seating offers a rocking function which many homeowners find appealing.
  • A fun add-on is bass shakers. These envelop you in sound and vibration to bring you closer to the action.
  • Many recliners can now be purchased with a motorized function. With a push of a button, this home theater seating allows for finely tuned, customized comfort.
  • Wall hugger recliners are also available if you have limited space. These require only a few inches of wall clearance to recline

Consider Adding a Remote Control to Your Seating Plan

Although not considered theatre seating, think about your home theatre remote control at this time. Remote controls are now very tech advanced. Now longer do you need to deal with the table clutter of 3-4 remote control devices. Choosing the right remote is something you will want to discuss with an expert.

However, having the ability to control every piece of equipment from a remote placed on your favorite chair is a definite asset to your media room. These days you can control light, sound and the movie without any hassle at all.

When purchasing a remote remember that a backlit screen or illuminated keypad will make it easier to operate your remote in a low light area.
