Game Room Decorating

decorate a game room

When decorating a game room, deciding the style of your game room depends on your personal preferences. If you have a country style home or a modern contemporary it will be easy to continue in this style. If your home has an Asian theme, it will be difficult to justify Asian serenity with game room enthusiasm.

Since game rooms are a fairly modern addition to homes, and they are usually set off by themselves, you can usually use any style of decorating without fear of interfering with your decorating style in other parts of the house.

Colors in a game room should be bright and fun. After all, this is an activity room and we want to convey a sense of fun and energy. Choose a fun fabric or a wall paper border that reflects the family interest as a starting point. Anything from Nascar, to football, to video games is available in both fabric prints and wallpaper borders.

Use this as a starting point for your decorating colors. Check out Choosing a Color Scheme for hints on using fabric to develop a color scheme.

Choosing Furniture For Your Game Room

If you are choosing furniture for your game room, modular style seating is a good choice. Choose furniture that is easy to move and rearrange. This way, if you invite a crowd over to watch a game, you can arrange the seating around the large screen TV for best viewing. On the other hand, if you want to play ping pong with the family, just move the furniture to the outside walls, unfold the ping pong table and you're good to go.

For these reasons, furniture that is light and easily moveable is a good choice. Bulky furniture with no sharp edges is a good choice where there will be regular physical activity in the room. Avoid small delicate pieces that might be knocked over or damaged during play. Glass is also to be avoided because of safety reasons.

Game Room Accessories

When deciding on accessories for your game room, be aware that this room will most likely be the center of physical activites. Just as when choosing furniture, try to choose accessories that are safe, sturdy and non-breakable.

If you have a bar, try to incorporate a small refrigerator and a microware into the bar area, especially if the kitchen is quite a ways from the game room. If you don't mind using paper and plastic, these are great for eating and drinking in a game room.

When it comes to accessories, there is no limit to the fun things you can collect for decorating. Popcorn machines, candy and gumball dispensers, neon signs, college pennants and sports memorabilia are all fun items to collect and display in a family game room. A Great Family Project

Creating or redoing a family game room is a great way to spend time together as a family. Working together to make decisions on where to locate the room, what type of games should be included, and how to decorate it will be great fun. Get everyone involved in the work also. Cleaning, painting, moving furniture can be done by everyone. No little red hens here. This should be a great way to get the family involved and spending some time together.
