Your First Apartment And The Furnishings You Can't Live Without
When you just start out in life and you move into your own place, you will probably have little furniture coming with you. If you’ve lived with your parents your entire life, you will leave behind a small, twin bed and a chest of drawers, but not much else. When setting up your first home, it’s useful to have a list of must have items so you won’t move into an empty apartment. Considering you spend most of your life in bed asleep, a great, high quality bed is a must have. Choose a bed size that you are most comfortable with and that will fit well in your new bedroom. A king sized bed may be the height of luxury, but you might have a hard time fitting it into an apartment sized bedroom. Once you have your bed chosen, fit it with high quality sheets and a cuddly duvet. There is no benefit to skimping on bed sheets, as they scratchy quality of low cost bedding will cause you more discomfort in the long run. Besides your bed, the second most important piece of furniture you need to have is a couch. If at all possible, purchase your own new couch, therefore resisting the urge to grab your Grandma’s old couch from her garage and plunk it down in the middle of your living room. Unless it’s in great shape and you can see yourself enjoying sitting on it, it will drag down the appearance of your living room. If the springs are intact, consider buying a slipcover from a home store. You can find trendy slipcovers that can transform even the ugliest of couches. A table and chairs is vitally important unless you like eating on your sofa every night, and having the dedicated space for eating will make you more likely to enjoy a meal at home occasionally. Many young people find that they don’t cook as much as their Mom did, using the table and chairs as a dropping point for paper work, car keys, or even clothing. Keep your table clear, and if you don’t use it to eat at regularly, find ways to use it as a work desk or a place to use your computer. A chest of drawers is important in a bedroom, as often closets don’t have the storage shelves that would hold your t-shirts and other items that must be hidden or folded. You can find second hand chests of drawers at any value shop. If they are in bad shape, slap on a coat of high gloss paint and viola, a new and beautiful piece for your bedroom. For an added touch in any of your rooms, consider buying yourself a new rug. An area rug can bring any room to life and having the feel of a natural flokati rug as you step out of bed or off the sofa can be very calming. With the advanced manufacturing processes today you will be able to find a colored flokati rug to go with any décor theme. Moving out for the first time is as exciting as it is costly. Save yourself some money by taking hand me downs and turning them into coveted new pieces of furniture, as well as focusing on only the pieces that you will need to make your new home comfortable. Once you’ve moved in and your new budget has been established, the sky is the limit for creating your own personalized space in your new apartment.
