How to Bring Your Style to the Front Porch

front porch log rocker

You have worked hard to develop your sense of style in order to bring that perfect design into every room of your home, but bringing it out into your outdoor living spaces is equally important since it is the first area that people see. It is important to know how to bring your style to the front porch so that people get the best first impression of your home, increasing the curb appeal and the value of your house. Whether you want to keep it simple or decorate with the latest trends, there is more to the porch these days than a rocking chair and a welcome mat

.

Retro/Vintage Style

It is very easy to bring these styles into play on the front porch, and you can use the old-school front porch decor items and accessories as a foundation for retro and vintage styles. Just be sure to dress them up with more modern fabrics and colors, or keep it vintage or retro with new versions on the classics. Add texture, live plants, lots of coordinating colors, and matching lighting style to complete the look. If there are numbers on your door or the front of the home, make sure that the style matches your design style too.

Mediterranean Style

Open, airy looks, complete with outdoor ceiling fan, are great to bring the Mediterranean style outdoors without a lot of cost. Reduce the clutter, and use wrought iron furniture to offer seating on the front porch if space permits, adding a rattan rug for that perfect final touch. A small front porch can be much harder to decorate, but you can always add small touches, such as numbers or family name plaques, to keep the look alive even in the smallest front porch areas. You can go neutral with the shades, and add touches of vibrant color, or decorate in more vibrant shades that are found in nature, depending on your own preferences.

Modern, Contemporary Looks

Clean lines and metals are the foundations for modern and contemporary design styles, so use different accessories to bring these outside. Although not among the cheaper design styles to represent, they are not the most expensive accessories either. Straight lines, perfect circles, cool shades, and shiny metals are perfect choices for the front porch if you like a more modern touch in your home. Cool shades can include classic neutral grays, blues that are more gray-based, deep shades of purple, black, white, and similar related colors.

Southwestern Decor

There are many ways to dress up your front porch in a southwestern design style, especially if you are comfortable with vibrant colors and plants that are easy to care for in this space. Candy apple red and cobalt blue are great colors for southwestern looks, especially when paired with shiny silvers and turquoise shades. For live plants, you can get a big potted cactus that is easy to care for to complete a southwestern look without taking up a lot of space.
