Use these eBay budget decorating ideas to have fun and save money
Create one of a kind rooms from unique items purchased while eBay shopping
EBay budget decorating is not an activity conducted only by college students trying to individualize a dorm room, or people wanting to furnish their first apartment. eBay shopping is carried on worldwide by a large amount of the population. It has become a wave still building to a crest. With no end in sight, the frenzy of eBay buying has given status to the phrase, "I bought it on eBay."
EBay budget decorating has become a badge of honor
When I talk with various visitors to my site through email, one of the subjects often brought up is the idea of decorating through eBay. There is a great interest on this subject, and because of many requests, I have decided to give this subject some space.
The house of eBay has no limits
One comment I can safely make about eBay is that you can find just about anything you want if you look long enough. It doesn't matter if you are looking for vintage tablecloths, one more place setting to match your grandmother's dishes, or a set of Boy Scout badges to round out your local scout den collage, you can find it all on eBay.
This in my opinion is also one of its greatest hazards. Because of the wide variety of items available, it is easy to spend hours and hours just browsing and eBay shopping.
eBay budget decorating is like hunting for treasure
Once you start considering eBay for your decorating needs and ideas, you will find you have stepped into a world all it's own. eBay is a worldwide bazaar loaded with items you feel you just can't live without.
However, the term "Buyer Beware" has never been more important. You don't have the option of taking an item home to "see if it fits" and then bringing it back for a refund. Your Home Decorating Portfolio is doubly important when eBay buying. Visit Room Planning Toolkit and read "Make the Best Use of Your Basic Toolkit."
If you are new to eBay, type in www.ebay.com and you will be at the home page.
By clicking on the word "Buy" at the top of the page and then going to the "Learning Center" you can get all the info you need to get started. Believe me when I say eBay does everything in its power to make the system easy to use. They want your repeat business, so if you are a newbie, don't be afraid to jump into the ring. You will have to register first. This is free and even if you only plan to look around you should do this. By registering you will be able to use "My eBay" to keep track of items you are interested in. It's easy to lose track of where you've been and where to find that particular lamp you loved so well, so be sure to make use of this feature.
Use the Search box to help your eBay budget decorating hunt If you are looking for items that fit into a particular style of decorating, this would be a good general term to start with. For instance Tuscan style, Italian country style, and Mediterranean style would all bring up items that might be useful to you. If the category is too broad, limit it to Tuscan style lights, Tuscan style lamps, or Tuscan style chandeliers if you are interested in lighting. Unlike Google, eBay recognizes the words "the", "and", and "or". Don't include those words unless they are an integral part of what you are looking for, such as "Winnie the Pooh bedspread". Use only the important words and be sure to put quotes around the phrase to bring up only items used in the phrase. If you put an item in quotes, it comes up only in that order. EBay treats plurals and singles as separate items. Don't search for "Beanie Baby" if you are looking for "Beanie Babies".
Narrow your search with minus and asterisk symbols
If you are searching for only natural fabrics to use in your eBay budget decorating scheme and don't want any red, type in "fabrics - synthetics - red" to limit your search.
If the fabric you are looking for is a vintage fabric from 1935 but you would be satisfied with any other '30s fabric, use "193* vintage fabric". The asterisk is a wild card that will bring up any number from 1930 to 1939.
Use the sort button to bring some order to your list. There are many categories to choose from such as price, newest/oldest item, time ending etc. Don't think you'll remember the exact search phrase that was so perfect next week. Take this from one who's been there!! When you find just the right keywords and searches that bring up exactly the results you want, be sure to store them in "My Favorite Searches". Don't skip this step. Searching can be a frustrating exercise and total waste of time. Lastly, be sure to keep a list of items and item numbers you want to keep track of for your eBay budget decorating project in "My eBay". Now you have the basics, so go to eBay budget decorating hints and tips and read on for some bidding hints and decorating ideas
