Making Brown the New Pink For a Teen Girl's Bedroom

Pink is the most common shade associated with girls, but not every girl loves shades of pink, even when combined with other colors. While there really are hundreds of shades that are appropriate as primary or secondary colors, making brown the new pink for a teen girl's bedroom is a great idea and very easy to accomplish. You can combine brown as either a primary or accent shade in this space, and there are many different fun choices for other coordinating shades.

Brown and Teal

Do not make the mistake of believing that colors like brown and blue are only suitable as neutrals or shades for a boy's room. Pairing chocolate brown with a vibrant teal is a great idea in a teen girl's bedroom, especially when paired with an appealing print or pattern. Circles, geometric shapes, stars, and similar ideas are perfect choices. Accent color options: lighter shades of brown and teal, white, hot pink, and off-white.

Camouflage, Brown, and Pink

Shades of camouflage are among of the trendiest ideas for today's contemporary teenage girl, especially when you add great browns and shades of pink to the room too. Use the camouflage as an accent or secondary color, and find earthy greens, tans, and vibrant pinks as the room's primary colors. Accent color options: white, chocolate brown, other shades of green, and yellows.

Tan and Red

Tan is a good choice for a neutral brown that pairs with a wide variety of colors, such as deep reds. Never use red as the primary shade in a bedroom, since it represents energy and passion and can disrupt sleep and takes away from the room's peaceful environment. Only use red as the accent color in a teenage girl's bedroom space. Accent color options: white, black, and many shades of dark brown or green.

Browns and Purple

Much like brown, purples are also very versatile colors that coordinate well with many other shades. You can choose a variety of shades of either color and they will still go together in a contemporary bedroom. Both shades can be primary or secondary, and you will easily be able to change the look of the room by changing either shade later. Accent color options: white, other shades of brown or purple, light shades of green, grays, and pastels.

Neutral Browns

If you want a more neutral space, use various shades of brown as your primary and secondary colors, and add personality by choosing artwork, focal points, bedding, and accessories in fun shades. Accent color options: purple, pink, green, teal, white, yellow, orange, red, off-white, other shades of brown, navy blue, and pastels.

Brown as an Accent Color

Brown is one of those accent colors that coordinates with just about anything, even for a feminine space for a teenage girl. There are virtually no colors that do not match some shade of brown, regardless of warm or cool tones, classic versus contemporary furniture, or carpeting or wood flooring. Just be careful with pairing the deeper shades of brown, such as chocolate brown, with dark colors, since they can combine to overwhelm the room
