Quilts and Tapestries Used When Decorating Walls Will Add Interest and Drama

When hanging fabric art, don't just nail it to the wall. A quilt enthusiast is bound to come along and probably faint at the sight of a hand made quilt hung with nails through it!

Take the time to sew a fabric sleeve (or bribe a good friend into doing it for the price of a luncheon date with you) on the back of any fabric art. Then buy a wood or wrought iron drapery rod of the correct size and slide it through the sleeve on the back. Attach the rod to the wall in whatever manner you please. When hung this way, you can change your fabric pictures as the mood strikes you. This is a great way of decorating walls and getting quilts out from chests and closet shelves.

When Decorating Walls Don't Overlook Children's Art

And if you have a budding artist in the family, give his/her efforts the respect it deserves. Yes, it may cost you more to frame this artwork than the material it was created with, but in years to come, you'll be so glad you made the effort to appreciate and preserve their work. Who knows, it may be worth a fortune someday! You are not only decorating walls, you are also adding to your child's confidence and self esteem.

Have You Discovered Tatouage for Decorating Walls?

Tatouage is a way of applying murals to almost any surface and the end result resembles trompe l'oeil. Trompe l'eoil is the wall art of painting scenes and details to create an illusion of reality.

Anyone can do this technique and it requires no artistic ability. Below is a scene I put on the wall at the bottom of my basement stairs. It is applied right on the concrete with no wall preparation. In order to give even more reality to the scene, I propped a real fishing pole up in the corner next to the tatouage.

When Decorating Walls Don't Ignore Your Computer

The things that can be done with photos and today's computers and software is amazing. I constructed an entire family tree on a quilt wall hanging using antique photos and the wonderful papers that are available to run through your printers.

Think about scanning and printing old photos you may not have looked at in many years. A friend of mine scanned photos of her children's growing up years. She then printed them on adhesive paper and used them as a wallpaper border along a chair rail in her entry hall. For many more wonderful ideas about how to use your computer when decorating walls with photos, check out the bookstores and craft sections of your favorite stores.
