The Color of Sunshine
If you are looking for a bright, cheerful color for your bathroom or bedroom, you may find that yellow fits the bill. For most of us, the idea of yellow walls conjures up the image of the drab distempered walls of a hospital or school building. However, the “right” shade of yellow can in fact look very elegant and refreshing and you can create an interesting design for any room around it.
All you need to find is the shade of yellow that you prefer.
A pale yellow is ideal as a foundational color that goes with most other hues. Therefore, if you want pale yellow walls in your bedroom, chances are that this will go well with light blue, orange, or green curtains, creating an almost oceanic effect. On the floor, you could put a yellow rug, which will add to the look. Whether you have wooden floors, laminate flooring or fully fitted carpets rugs will add a great look to any room. The room will look bright, refreshing, and very light. You could then match the bedding to the curtains, diluting the overall yellow hue of the room somewhat, but maintaining its bright effect. A bathroom can also contain some of the yellow effect. For example, you could choose a lemon colored waterproof paint for the walls. The bathroom fittings themselves would be white or cream, with primrose yellow bath towels and a matching shower curtain. Needless to say, the floor would be decorated with a pretty yellow area rug, providing comfort for those who are either entering or leaving the bath. This lemony effect looks very clean and refreshing. A yellow rug can also be a pleasant accessory for any kitchen. Again, lemon or primrose yellow is a great color in this room. While the kitchen does not need to be totally yellow, any shade of yellow provides a great base color. For example, the walls could be a basic pale yellow, with brown or white wooden cabinets. The handles could be a neutral color, and the walls can also be decorated with various patterns. The kitchen could in fact be decorated with several shades of yellow, from very pale to a dark sienna hue. Yellow also goes very well with lime green, making your kitchen look bright, clean, and cheerful. Another popular color for interior decorating is mustard. This is a darker, more pronounced yellow. However, this is more of a specific taste, so if you do decide to paint your kitchen a mustard color, be sure that you really like this color to begin with. Yellow area rugs are also great for any bedroom. As they are such a neutral color, they will fit in with the overall color scheme. They are much easier to wash than white rugs and do not pick up the stains in the same way. So if you are looking for a great neutral color that will bring sunshine into your home, look no further than the humble color yellow. Even if all you do is add a yellow area rug, you will see a huge difference as it lightens up the rest of the room.
