You want a room that you can escape to; a room that is perfect for just you. The bedroom is an expression of what you like and don't need to please anyone else. You can place a certain amoung of work into your bedroom, but it is going to take the finishing touches to make it work for you. Here are some helpful tips to help you create a bedroom of your dreams.

Color Scheme:

You need to know what color you want to put on the wall. There are several different colors to choose from and if you have a hard time deciding on a particular color, you will need to find something in your bedroom or at the store that you want as your focal point and color scheme and build your room around it. Some colors affect the romantic feel of your room, so take this into consideration when choosing colors.

You can use dark red, purple, or pink in your room, or you can keep the theme light and airy by using a light blue shade with white. Sheer curtains can be used for window treatments.

Lighting:

You probably read in your room, so you want lighting for reading. You will also want lamps on each side of the bed. Because you are trying to create a romantic bedroom, you will want lights you can dim.

Window Treatment:

You want to dress your windows according to your decor. For example, if you want a Victorian look in your bedroom, the curtain shoule be mauve colored panels that go down to the floor. They should be tied back and also include a valance that is also in the same color but with ruffles. You can add blinds to your window or simply pull the curtains at night.

Decorating the Bed:

Your bed will be the center of attention in this room, so you want to dress it up and make it look great. If you go with a print comforter, you will want to use solid colors to accent it. The same goes for a solid color. You need to create balance in every part of the bedroom.

Pillows are a necessity on your bed. You need to put several pillows with a blend of designs and patterns to complete the look. You can add a few solid color pillows as well.

Rugs:

You will want to include shag rugs for a softer feel to your feet or you can go with a sisal rugs. These rugs would look great in the bedroom and may be the finishing touch to your look.

Finishing Touches:

There are a few finishing touches that you may want to try in order to complete the look. You will need a floral arrangement in the room. Make sure that your vase is a neutral tone because your flowers will have all the design and color you need. On the bedside tables, you can place a few memorabilia that you would like to display or that goes with the current decor you have chosen.
