Create a spa at home? With my budget? I can hear you now. You've probably read my Creating a Home Spa page and have totally given up on the home spa experience. But, if you'll look again, you'll see that spas are all about pampering and relaxation, not about the latest and greatest spa developments.

Most of the spa therapies listed can be accomplished quite inexpensively when you want to create a spa at home experience. Here are some home spa therapies you can easily recreate on a budget:

Water and Aromatherapy

Water therapy is simply soaking in a tub. Of course the more amenities the tub contains (jets, whirlpool, etc.) the closer to the spa experience you will be. However, even a simple bath soak will revive and rejuvenate your body and spirits. Here is a list of ideas to make your bath time resemble the spa environment:

Create a Spa Basket

This basket is for you and you alone. Hide it under the bed or in the attic if necessary. Fill this with some awesome bath products that you love: sea salt scrubs, revitalizing bath salts, loofah sponges, great large sea sponges, bubble baths, aromatherapy oils, body creams, etc. You get the idea. This is something you will only bring out on your spa days. You don't have to fill this all at once, but as you find great products add them to your basket. You can also add items for your basket to gift lists when friends and family ask if there is something you'd enjoy for your birthday or Christmas.

Candles Are Important to Your Spa Bathing Experience and Aromatherapy

Again, these are special candles used only to create a spa at home. Choose them by color, scent, shape, or whatever makes you feel good.

For more ways to enjoy aromatherapy in your bath you can use a small fogger in the bathroom and fill with the scent of the day You can also place a reed diffuser near the tub to add additional scent to your bath.

How to Enjoy a Spa Bath aromatherapy bath with rose petals

Fill you bath with whatever you feel in the mood for. Epsom salts are a wonderful addition to rejuvenate your body. Essential oil aromatherapy is great for relaxation The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy: Over 600 Natural, Non-Toxic and Fragrant Recipes to Create Health - Beauty - a Safe Home Environment

An inflatable pillow that attaches to the tub will enhance your sense of luxury. With your favorite drink at hand, and a good book if you like to read in the tub, you will soon be in spa land.

Plan on spending at least 30 minutes soaking in your wonderful bath. When ready to move on, be sure you have some especially thick spa quality towels you use only for this day. Also if possible, a thick white spa quality robe will enhance your bathing experience as you creat a spa at home.

Sound Therapy

Sound therapyis another spa technique you can use when you creat a spa at home. Sound helps to recharge our mental capacities and perform better in a conscious state. It even brings us to a state of calmness. Music should be restful and relaxing to enhance that sense of peace and pampering you are striving for when you create a spa at home. One of the best producers of brain wave music is Dr.Jeffery Thompson. My particular favorite is Music for Brainwave Massage 2.0

Chromotherapy

Chromotherapy is hard to replicate at home. However you can help to replicate the spa mood by dimming the lights and lighting some candles. You can also replace your lightbulbs with bulbs of color to enhance your mood. Peach or pink lightbulbs will change the mood of the room and help bring in the spa experience.

Thermotherapy

Thermotherpy is relaxing with heat. I'm sure you are all familiar with saunas. Now, many are choosing to enjoy the wonderful benefits and health advantages in their own homes by using a portable sauna.

A portable sauna is affordabe, flexible, convenient, and can be easily stored away when not in use. They heat up quickly, can plug into an electrical wall socket and are lightweight and easily movable. This is the perfect choice for those who wish to relax in a sauna while at home, when traveling or vacationing out of town, or in the office. There are many sites on the "Net where you can compare various portable saunas

If you don't have access to a sauna, you can turn on the hot water in the shower and let steam fill the bathroom just before you use it.

Other Spa Activites

Here is a list of other activites you may enjoy when you create a spa at home:
  • Facial
A facial can be enjoyed while you are relaxing in the tub. You'll find this a wonderfully pampering experience. There are many recipes and instructions you can use on the 'Net. A Facial Sauna With Timer is also a great way to create a spa at home.
  • Manicure and Pedicure
After your bath is the perfect time to give yourself a manicure, pedicure, or even both if you have the time. Check out some of the popular and affordable Manicure/Pedicure Sets
  • Massage
With the wonderful Hand Wand Massagers available today, you can give yourself a relaxing massage in mintes
  • Eye Therapy
Once your beauty regimen is done, finish up with some therapy for the eyes. Place wet teabags or cucumber slices on your eyes, lie down, and relax for a few minutes. Finish up with some eye cream and your relaxing day of pampering is done.
How do you feel? Rejuvenated? Relaxed? Refreshed? Revitilized? Then your spa day has been a success!

Set Up a Regular Spa Regimen in Your Home Spa

So there you have it, some simple, affordable ways to create a spa at home. Set up a weekly or monthly appointment for yourself just as if you were going out to a spa.

Know that you are giving yourself some spa time that is worth quite a bit of monetary value (if you had treated yourself to a professional spa treatment) and some time certainly valued for your peace of mind and serenity.

Lay back, pamper and indulge yourself knowing that everyone around you will benefit from this time you give yourself. When you create a spa at home and set up this time for relaxation and rejuvenation you are not being selfish. Put value on yourself and others will also put value on you.
