Changing Your Bedroom LayoutThe bedroom is the place in the home in which the average person spends the most time. Most of us spend at least seven hours of every day in our beds so getting the position of that right in the room first is of paramount importance.
The centrepiece of any bedroom is the bed and this feature needs to be considered at every stage of redesigning the layout of the room. A bedroom should be a comfortable and relaxing place to spend time. You will need to consider where to place your bed as if this is wrong the rest of your furniture will never quite feel like they are in the correct place. You do not want to be blinded by glare from the windows but also it would be ideal, if space allows, for the bed to face away from any exterior walls. Furthermore, you need to ensure your drawers and wardrobes are easily accessible, whilst there also needs to be enough space to navigate around the room. The placement of your bed could be constrained by the area in which you must work. Not everyone's bedrooms are just for sleeping. The function of the room should be considered at an early stage, as the requirements for a master bedroom are often different to those of a second bedroom or a child's bedroom in the house. Many people use the second room either for guests or as an office. In this case sofa beds could be a better idea when looking at layout of the room. If for a child single beds are preferred for size and to offer a larger play area in the room. Further decor of the room can then follow after a suitable bed has been chosen, allowing you to pick colours and materials. You will need to consider what type of mood you would like to create and then choose materials would best complement this. Darker woods and soft lighting create a relaxing atmosphere whilst lighter shades can add an element of life to your surroundings. The shades you choose should complement the natural light which will be streaming in from your windows so your choice of shade could depend on which direction your bedroom is facing.
