Baby Room Decor - 7 Quick Tips For Setting Up Your Baby Room

Decorating your baby’s room is a fun and exciting task. Think about going back to your childhood fantasies and bringing to life the things you have enjoyed as a child. A baby’s sleep is deemed the most crucial part of his or her development. A well-organized, colourful and perky room adds up to their comfort as they sleep.

However, this is also a difficult task for people who do not have a creative streak to begin with. Instead of hiring a professional Interior Decorator which will cost a lot of money, why not save time and money with the following 7 easy tips in setting up your baby’s room?

  • Choose a wall paint that your child will appreciate until they turn 12

Colours that pop such as pink for girls and blue for boys will really add a touch of excitement to the whole room. You can try adding wallpaper for additional design but make it minimal. Try putting the wallpaper at the bottom part of the wall only and use matte paint for the upper part of the wall so the prints are not too distracting. Here is another tip, try to paint a mural on one wall area and paint the other walls with a solid colour. The area painted with mural will be the focal point of the room.
  • Theme it up!

It will be much easier to coordinate if you have a theme. For instance, you have chosen a Barbie theme for your daughter’s room and you have painted the walls pink, now choose Barbie-inspired accessories. Choose a fluffy pink chair or a lavender dressing table. For boys, you can go for Toy Story-inspired theme. Disney characters and movies are also good theme inspirations.
  • Coordinate with colours.

Use the walls as the main colour and coordinate your accessories with it. If you have used pink, try coordinating it with a touch of yellow green and lavender. This accentuates the colour of the walls. Check the colour wheel for the right coordination. It is highly advised to use colours. Studies say that this helps develop a child’s eye and brain coordination.
  • Don’t put sharp or toxic objects.

Make sure it is completely kid-friendly. Check out the back label of the toys you are buying to find out if there are toxic contents in it. Toys, pillows, cribs and chairs have to be fire-retardant too for additional safety. Consider where you are going to place electronics such as ceiling fan as well. It should not be directly situated above your baby’s crib.
  • Place your baby’s crib close to the center or to the mural area if you have it.

Put additional accessories such as mobiles and side table lights to give an additional charm to the whole room. Once your baby is old enough to sleep in a kid mattress, you should be able to remove the crib easily and replace it with a mattress. In this case, you can add up colourful bed sheets. One of the focal points of the room is the bed. If the rest of your design is pretty tamed, you can make the bed a little more whimsical such as using a box frame shaped like a carriage for your little princess or shaped like a car for boys. But remember not to spend too much on box frames as your child will surely want to change it when they get older.
  • Place comfortable rugs on the floor.

You can find beautiful designs today such as stars and flowers to tie a whimsical room together. You can place a bean couch on the floor as well and accentuate it with colourful pillows. Also place a lounge chair where you can sit and cuddle your baby.
  • Place curtains and blinds that will deflect light when it gets too sunny inside the room

Try adding crystal curtains. When the sun strikes it, it will scatter colourful rainbow lights across the room which will be more diverting for your baby.

Final Words

Try to sketch your ideas first before actually bringing it to life. Compare colour swatches to find out if the colours you are using will really coordinate. More importantly, get the best bargains. Invest in pieces that your child will appreciate when they get older.
