Asian Kitchen Ideas
When considering kitchen design ideas, it can sometimes be a good idea to move beyond the limitations of the place where you live or your surrounding culture. Kitchens in one form or another have always existed, from a basic corner for preparing food to the luxuries of the designer kitchen. The question is what interests you. One kind of style that may appeal to you, even if you live geographically very far away, is the Asian kitchen. The Asian style of decor has had a profound influence on western styles. For example, in Chinese culture furniture follows geometrical lines and patterns, a style that appears very logical and relaxing. This kind of style has also been integrated into many western homes. The other very appealing aspect of creating an Asian kitchen is that many of the materials used are natural, such as bamboo, wood, and silk, making the kitchen into an environmentally sound place. You can also make sure that the floor is from natural materials by using stone or granite in true Asian style.
Another important factor in this style is color. Chinese and Japanese culture place a lot of importance on color and direction, as seen from the Feng Shui method of interior design. Various meanings are placed on these aspects and they are a major part of this look. For example, red is seen as an augury for wealth. Therefore, you will find many Asian kitchens resplendent with red. Other auspicious colors are: white, silver, black, gold, and dark brown. One of the most successful combinations is red and black-the passion of red matched with more solid and relaxing ebony. Of course, you may not be able to change the larger items, such as the cabinets and countertops. Therefore, you may have to augment the look of your kitchen with various accessories and decorations, such as Chinese silk wall-hangings, bamboo mats, or even ornate Chinese wood-carvings. These items will add authenticity to any size of kitchen, working well even if you are looking for small kitchen ideas or designing your kitchen within a very restricted budget. For simple little decorations, leave out chopsticks and little Chinese silk napkins. For lighting, you could use silk lanterns decorated in the most traditional manner. Little wooden bowls and wok pans are also a great idea. When it comes to layout, Feng Shui (mentioned above) is an instrumental part of Asian kitchen designs. This favors open spaces and room for movement. For this reason, Asian kitchens also tend to be very well lit. So make sure that you have enough lighting fixtures, including some accent lights. The idea behind this concept is that bad energy needs to be driven out, and good energy should be attracted by this openness and light. Accordingly, the traditional Asian kitchen is very practical and clutter free, as this will surely bring in more positive energies. So make sure that no unnecessary stuff is left lying around and that you keep your kitchen clean. It is not too difficult to follow the Asian principles of light, life, and simplicity, and these simple kitchen ideas will surely make your kitchen into a more pleasant and functional place.
