Read about me and my passion in life.

I'm writing this "About Me" page because a while back I received a letter from Jill, one of my visitors. She was doing an assignment for a school project and used info from this site. Her teacher asked for my credentials, and Jill asked, "Who are you and how do you know so much?" Why don't you have an "About ME" page?

Search Both This Site and the Web for More Info

Below is the answer to her question, and why I feel qualified to construct this content site about my passion, Home Decorating:

I looked at my site because I was sure I had an "About ME" page. It is called "Myself, MY Site". However, you are correct when you say there are no qualifications listed there. That page is mostly about how I came to build this site and what others can do to earn income from home. So here is a listing of my qualifications and how I came to have such a passion about interior decorating.

I consider myself an authority on home decorating for several reasons.

I have been interested in home decorating ever since I moved into our first apartment as a young bride. When I was young I actually considered a career as an interior decorator, but raising a family of six children put that idea on hold.

Even though I never formally attended a school of interior design, I have become an interior decorating authority through life experience.

I started out working in the home dec department of a large fabric store called House of Fabrics. They eventually merged with another store and are now called Jo-Ann Fabrics.

There I helped people measure, decide on color schemes, and make style decisions. I also taught sewing classes in making home dec items such as curtains, pillows, tablecloths and napkins, etc. After a few years, I became the manager of the fabric store.

I became well versed about furniture. I became familiar with woods, finishes and construction, along with decorating styles and periods.

I again moved to the home dec section of the furniture stores. Part of my duties there was going to clients homes, helping them measure, make style and color decisions and help with furniture arrangement.

While working at these various positions, I attended many seminars and took various online and correspondence courses. I am also married to a man who restored historical homes and learned much about period styles and construction from him.

After 30 years of working in this field working with other decorators and talking to thousands of clients, I feel I can qualify myself as an authority.

Now that I am retired, I am building my home dec website as a hobby. My hope is that it will help people get in touch with the creativity that everyone is born with. By visiting my site, they may get the courage and the knowledge to go ahead and create the home of their dreams.

Since I've started this site, I have had many professional decorators write and ask permission to use my forms that I have developed over the years and that I have included in my website as my free home decorating workbook. decorate a tuscan kitchen

I've had one interior designer ask permission to use the creative exercises that I print in my monthly newsletter as a basis for her home dec classes that she gives on a cruise ship and many others have put up links to various pages in this site.

This is only a sampling of letters I receive from other professional interior designers. I feel if other designers are asking to use my products and ideas, I can consider myself an authoritative source.
