From My Desktop

Hello to all you faithful readers and visitors,

In case anyone has noticed, yes I am late this month. I can't believe it;s the middle of the month already. I've been so busy installing a new feature on my website, I must admit I haven't paid any attention at all to the time.

I now have a new feature called, "Post-A-Page" on my site. This is an interactive program where any one can post a question, problem or solution, along with a photo, get feedback, and make comments.

I'm hoping this will help build a sense of community with all you regular readers and visitors. Take the time to take a look at this feature. I think it will be a great asset to the site and I hope many of you take advantage of it. There have been one or two comments and I hope it just keeps right on growing.

You can find it at Post-A-Page.

Have a Great Thanksgiving as You Count Your Blessings!

Your Friendly Neighborhood (even if I am half way around the world!) Home Dec Lady,
Gloria

The Creative Workshop
To Do List vs Opportunity List

Have you given your home a close inspection lately? If you are a regular reader, you know I am always encouraging you to look at your home as if you are a first time visitor.

Are the windows clean? Is the paint fresh? Are the curtains soiled and droopy? Take the time every few months to walk around and visit your home. Carry a pad of paper and write out a list of things you are not happy to see. Don't think of this as a to-do list, but as an opportunity list.

If some of the hardware on your kitchen cabinets is missing, don't just replace what's missing. Take the time to look at what's available at your home improvement store. You may find something that inspires you to make some small creative changes in your kitchen.

Is the paint on your front door boring and blah? Put it on your list. Add curb appeal by painting the door a bold new color and add an outstanding seasonal door decoration.

Spots on your living room wall to-wall carpet? On your list it goes. Don't just clean the carpet. Look for some interesting area rugs to put down on top of the carpet. This will not only protect the heavy traffic areas, but will add some pizazz to your living room.

As you keep your ongoing opportunity list, don't just think of repairing and cleaning. Consider how you can creatively use the changes that are needed to freshen and update your decor. If you have to make changes and repairs anyway, use this list as a creative exercise and enjoy the process.

Who Owns Your Business, You or eBay?
The Truth About Online Auctions

Love doing eBay but tired of all the rules. Tired of working for eBay for free?

eBay lets the software run the network of buyers and sellers. And then they let the network effect take over...

More and more sellers meant increasing diversity of product, which attracted more and more buyers. More and more buyers meant more demand, which attracted more and more sellers.

"And thus did eBay's growth feed upon itself"... meteorically. eBay grew into a company worth billions. They now own all "the little people" who do the hard, tedious, physical work that software cannot do.

Well... it's Independence Day.

No...

  • Do NOT stop your online auction business. It makes money. That's a start.

  • Do NOT stop your eBay activity. They offer a great service.

  • Do NOT "start over". Just build upon what you have started.

To continue this thread about Online Business Auctions see how others have created their own auction sites without eBay.

Creative Dozen - Create an Exciting Headboard
Tips for Adding Pizazz to Your Bedrooms

There are innumerable ways to create headboards for all types of beds. Whether you are thinking of the master bedroom, your guest bedroom, or wanting to bring some excitement to a child's room, read some of these ideas to get your own creative ideas flowing:

1. Repair and install an old fence you found at a yard sale or junk yard. Picket fence or iron railing, whatever suits your stlye. Paint or refinish it to match your decorating style. You'll find this will give a whole new look to your room.

2. Tack a coverlet around a piece of plywood padded with polyester batting and cut to size to create a stunning headboard. If you can sew, make a matching dust ruffle or pillow shams to create a custom coordinated look.

3. For a country bedroom, refinish an old barn door and use it as a headboard. Install it either upright or sideways depending on the width of the bed.

4. Install a large brass ring high above the center of the bed. Run a suitable fabric through it and drape it down on each side of the bed.

5. Set up a folding screen behind the bed. These come ready made to fit every decorating style.

6. For a garden style, use trellises. Run silk flowers and vines through it to give that outdoor nature feeling.

7. Use antique shutters behind the bed. Stain or paint the shutters to match your decor.

8. Apply self-adhesive tiles to create a headboard to suit your colors and decorating style.

9. Use rub-on wall designs to create a stunning headboard that has the look of hand painting. You can see these at Tatouage Designs

10. Hang a large quilt or tapestry on a decorative rod over the bed.

11. Make a large frame with decorative molding on the wall behind the bed. Create a themed collage such as florals, sports, nature, animals etc, using beautiful pictures from old calendars and calendar art. Protect with 2 coats of acrylic spray.

12. Wallpaper the wall behind the bed cut to size and frame it with a matching wallpaper border.

These are just a few ideas to get you thinking. Your options for headboards are limited only by your imagination.
